How to disable popup-blockers
Most people don't know that they have one or more popup-blockers on their computer, because these programs are often anonymously included with other porgrams and even Windows updates that they download.

Hint: You can temporarily overide some popup-blockers by holding down the Ctrl key while you click on the link or button that you want to open.

What are Popups?

Unwanted popups are screens that come up when you're surfing the internet. You go to one page, and an ad opens up on another page. They are often the product of spyware.

Because they're so common and irritating, popup blockers are popular.

When you click on a link to intentionally open a web page in a new window, you are requesting a wanted popup. The problem is that most popup-blockers interfere with both wanted and unwanted popups. For that reason, they need to be turned off to when you want to use a website that uses intentional popup windows.

Most popup-blocker software will let you specify whether you want to turn popup-blocking off completely or whether you just want to turn it off for a specific site. Here is a list of some of the common popup-blockers and instructions for turning them off:

If you have installed Service Pack 2, then you have a popup-blocker in Internet Explorer. To turn it off, click on "Tools > Turn off Popup-blocker". If you just want to disable popup-blocking for a specific website use "Tools > Popup-blocker settings..." and then enter the website address
You can also get there through "Tools > Internet Options... " in the menu, then click on the Privacy tab and uncheck Block Popups.
The Google Toolbar is an add-on for Internet Explorer. If you have it, click on the Blocking Popups button and it will change to Site Popups Allowed.
If you have the Yahoo toolbar as part of Internet Explorer, please see our note. (To determine if you have the yahoo toolbar select "Tools > Toolbars" from the menu at the top of your browser.)
The McAfee Internet Security Suite has a popup blocker and it's part of "Privacy Services". If you can't find it look in the "Help" for your McAfee software.
Norton's Internet Security has a popup-blocker and here's how to turn it off.
Look for the button labelled Pop-Up Blocker. Click on it to turn it on and off.
